Aliss Delights in the Lord
In a small, vulnerable neighborhood in Costa Rica, where drug sales and substance use are part of the daily landscape, a young girl named Aliss is learning to rise above her circumstances. She lives with her grandmother, the heart of their household, who works in commerce and carries the weight of providing for the family. Life hasn’t been easy—Aliss’s mother has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and struggles with substance abuse, and Aliss herself is undergoing medical evaluations to see if she also has bipolar disorder. Yet, in the midst of hardship, love and resilience shine brightly in their home.
“Despite everything, my grandmother always ensures we have a home filled with love and support,” Aliss shared.
Each day after school, Aliss heads to the White Flag Foundation, where she receives academic and emotional support—and where she first encountered Superbook. Through the animated Bible stories, Aliss found more than entertainment; she found hope, purpose, and a deeper understanding of God’s love.
Before learning Bible lessons through Superbook at the White Flag Foundation, Aliss was shy and unmotivated. But Superbook helped her see herself through God’s eyes. The stories taught her values like empathy and respect, which she now shares with her family. These lessons have brought healing and harmony to their home.
One Bible verse has especially become her anchor:
“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.” —Psalm 37:4
This promise gives Aliss strength to keep going, even when life feels overwhelming.

“Now, I feel more confident and eager to learn,” shared Aliss. “I have started sharing the values I’ve learned, such as empathy and respect, with my family, and that has improved our relationship at home.”
