ELECTORAL COLLEGE TALLY: Trump Wins Second Term, Pledges to Lead America to 'Golden Age'
Former President Donald Trump has defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. With votes in several states still being counted, Trump has won 292 electoral votes to Harris' 224. In his victory speech, Trump pledged to lead America into a "Golden Age."
After leading the White House race all night, Trump won the critical battleground state of Pennsylvania after also winning Georgia and North Carolina earlier. That third battleground victory pushed him to the brink of his overall victory.
He delivered a victory speech shortly after AP called Pennsylvania on his behalf.
In the overnight hours, he also picked up Wisconsin, and then his victory in Michigan was announced at 1 PM on Wednesday.
The presidential race was determined by a handful of key swing states as expected. So far, Trump has won all the swing states, including the so-called "blue wall" states, turning them red as his tally continues to rise the day after the election. He was also leading in races too close to call in Arizona and Nevada.
ELECTORAL COLLEGE TALLY
To win the White House, the candidates needed to win the majority of Electoral College votes - 270 votes to be the winner.
At 1 PM on Wednesday, the official Electoral College tally stood at 224 votes for Harris and 292 votes for Trump.
While Alaska had yet to be called by AP, multiple outlets had already predicted the red state as a Trump win overnight, giving him the final 3 Electoral College votes he needed to reach the 270 threshold.
Harris won big states such as New York, Illinois, California, and Virginia while Trump scored wins in key states like Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Florida, and Texas.
