Faith That Never Stopped

“If I can bless somebody else, that's what I want to do.”

Marji Mahoney’s passion has always been ministry. She grew up in Costa Rica and has been faithfully tithing for fifty years-- ever since she was fourteen and got her first job.

‘“When I received my first check, my mom told me, ‘Put so much in the bank, keep a little bit for yourself and then tithe ten percent.’ I began to get bonuses almost every month. It was like, “Wow, this is wonderful, you know?”’

At eighteen, Marji fell in love and married Daniel, an American who’d come to help with a building project at her church.

They settled in Illinois and continued tithing. During that time, Marji discovered the 700 Club.

“Pat Robertson was talking about the work that he was doing, going to several countries, and how he was helping people. I just felt in my heart that I really wanted to help other people, but I couldn't go myself to all of these different countries. So, I began to give my twenty dollars.”

Marji and Daniel relocated to Texas to attend bible college, with plans to become missionaries. The next year, Daniel died of leukemia, leaving Marji alone with two small children.

‘“And it was kind of like, ‘Wow, what am I going to do, Lord? How am I going to do this?’ But God walked me step by step by step. My children were going to get only a little thing for Christmas. And the night before, it was a knock on the door with this people who came with all kinds of gifts, and we were blessed. My heart was strengthened, my faith. I knew that the Lord was going to provide everything.”’

And he did! Marji worked hard, completing her bachelor’s degree and becoming a teacher. As her income increased, so did her giving to CBN. Though she never traveled to the mission field overseas, she says that partnership has meant the world to her.

“If I cannot go myself, CBN is going--Honduras and Cambodia and China. I knew that CBN was doing it unto the Lord. As the Lord puts in my heart, then I will give it unto Jesus through CBN.”

Through the years, Marji has enjoyed having a daily partner in ministry. She loves what CBN is doing through Superbook, Operation Blessing and CBN Israel.

“I love how they minister in Israel to widows, because I have been a widow. And how they fix the little mouth of the babies and how they give the water to the children; how thankful the people are. The smiles in their faces touch my heart, because we're making a difference.”

Marji is now retired. She still finds joy in giving and says believers who don’t tithe and give to CBN are missing out.

‘“Give it, because CBN is a million times grounded in the word of God, they're going to the four corners of the earth, helping people and presenting the gospel of Jesus Christ.   So, I'm saying, ‘Come on board, let's do this. Do it for Jesus.’"

“Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.” Will you partner with CBN and help plant generously around the world? Your generous giving brings hope to the hopeless and the truth of God’s Word to millions around the world through our humanitarian efforts. Become a CBN partner today and share the love of Christ.
