County's Miscast Votes Blamed on 'Calibration Error'
A curious story from Illinois is raising concerns of election fraud in the upcoming midterm elections.
According to the group Watchdog.org, Republican candidate for state representative Jim Moynihan received a surprise when he cast his early ballot at a public library Monday.
The voting machine recorded that Moynihah voted for his Democratic opponent.
As he studied the entire slate, Moynihan discovered every Republican vote had been transformed into a vote for a Democrat.
"Clearly, I am concerned that citizens will be unable to vote for the candidate of their choice, especially if they are in a hurry and do not double check their ballot," the Illinois Review quoted Moynihan.
"I cannot say whether or not this was intentional, but Cook County voters deserve better and should not have their right to vote suppressed," he said.
A spokesman for the Cook County Clerk's Office said the problem was caused by a "calibration error" in the machine.
