Looking for a Better Job?
In his spare time, Lynton Sonnier makes custom fishing rods and loves to fish.
“This has been one of his passions our whole marriage,” his wife Cynde explains. “He's even made us a living doing these kinds of things.”
For years, Lynton was in construction and carpentry, yet when he didn’t have work in either field, whether from injury or lay-offs, he turned to fishing to support Cynde and their daughter. Regardless of how much or how little the couple made, they always tithed and gave beyond that.
“God says all through the Bible, ‘Test me, you know, and see if I don't open up the windows of heaven.’ Without the tithe, there's no ministry,” Lynton declares.
Cyndee chimes in, “I believe that our tithe is obedience, but our giving, that's not something God's asking us to do. That's something we want to do because we love Him.” She further explains, “One of the reasons that I think that we give is because we have had the need. We have been there. We know what that need’s like. I know that 20 dollars would have paid a gas bill for me. So, when we bless others, we're looking back of how God has blessed us.”
There were times the Sonniers couldn’t even afford groceries or school clothes.
Cynde shares, “I wasn't working. I was a stay-at-home mom. Our church even brought us groceries one day, and it was really hard accepting that, I think because we were always the ones helping someone else.
Through years of fluctuation in Lynton’s career and income, the couple continued to trust God and sacrificially give. Then in 1998, Lynton got a steady job with a leak detection company and still works as a technician to this day.
He exclaims, “I prayed for it for so long that, ‘God, I just want a job that's not so stressful.’ When I took this job, my earnings tripled, and it is just from the tithing and everything, being faithful as givers.”
One place the Sonnier’s faithfully give to is CBN.
“I felt like the holy spirit was just telling me to give to CBN,” Lynton expounds.
Cynde adds, “One of the things that we really like about the 700 Club, it's how diverse their giving is to others. We have helped with the Ukraine offering, we have helped with the Israeli offering. God said to bless Israel. I actually got saved listening to Ben Kinslow talk on the 700 Club.”
“CBN is means a lot to me,” Lynton says. “The things that they do with Operation Blessing, Helping the Homefront; everything they do is centered around God. They use all the money going to them for God's kingdom. I know I'm a part of it, helping people that have hurricanes or tornadoes go through, and when you have a doctor there that's giving surgery, to just somebody that can't afford it, and you know, that's your giving, and the child that gets the cleft palate repaired, and the mother says, ‘Thank you,’ that means a lot to me. And I say, ‘You're welcome.’ You know, that's a blessing.”
For anyone who wants to be a part of God’s work and see Him provide for their own needs, the Sonnier’s suggest giving, like they do.
“You need to really consider start being a giver,” Lynton concludes. “Everything is His, and it's just giving back to Him. God will bless you. You will not believe how much he bless you by giving, especially to CBN, because they bless so many people, and it's just the right thing to do.”
