I Begged for My Son’s Life!

Cheng always asked his father if he could go to the mountains and help him with his farming.

“I finally agreed.  But I regretted it,” admits his dad.

Cheng recounts, “I had only climbed a small bit before my hands started to shake and I could barely breathe.”

“His face was pale, and his lips were purple,” recalls Cheng’s father.  I carried him home on my back, and I could feel his heart beating really fast.  I didn't know what was wrong with him.”

Doctors at the local clinic said Cheng was just malnourished.  The family is poor, so his mother went to the city to work so the couple could get better food for Cheng.  Yet he only got worse.

Cheng shares, “It felt like someone was pounding on my heart with a little hammer.  Sometimes I would get all sweaty.”

When he was seven, Cheng had a routine health exam at school where doctors discovered that he had a hole in his heart, and it had been growing since he was a baby.

Cheng remembers, “A classmate told me that if someone has a heart problem, they could die.”  He confesses, “After that, I was scared every day, and I was angry that my body didn’t work right.”

Still, it didn’t stop him from trying to roller-skate like the other kids.  Yet when he tried, he collapsed.

“I was dizzy and nauseous, Cheng says.  “My skin turned cold and purple.  I was a very sick boy.  My body was getting weaker every day, and I didn’t know how long I would live.”

His dad shares, “I went from house to house to borrow money for surgery, but everyone turned me down.  There was nothing I could do, until one day, a teacher said they found an organization called Operation Blessing that would help.  It was a miracle.”

Soon, Cheng got heart surgery.

“We couldn't believe that strangers would help us like that.  Operation Blessing volunteers said the love comes from Jesus,” exclaims Cheng’s dad. “We’d never received this kind of love.  I’m thankful to God for it, and I also thank Operation Blessing donors for giving my son a chance on life.”

“No matter how long I play, I’m never tired,” proclaims Cheng.   He concludes, “I'm full of energy and I'm breathing well.  Now I can climb the mountain faster than my father.  I'm happy every day and my life is full of hope and joy.”
