Unlocking the Ultimate Power of Heaven
GOD’S PLAN
Charlie Lewis grew up in a Christian home in Jacksonville, Florida. His parents worked hard as part owners of a retail furniture chain, and they also oversaw a furniture manufacturing business. Church attendance was normal in the Lewis household. Charlie dedicated his life to God at a young age, but his faith was built on fundamental religious teachings that valued process over a relationship with Jesus.
When he was 17 years old, during his first year of college, Charlie decided to map out his future by writing a five-year plan. After he finished writing, he heard the Lord ask, “Where do I fit in here?” Charlie sat there, startled, not knowing how to respond until later, when he learned to have a deeper relationship with the Lord.
When Fran and Charlie met during their school days, they hit it off and began dating. As the relationship got serious, they both agreed to put God first in their relationship. Being a couple of years older than Fran, Charlie waited until she graduated from high school before they married in 1969.
A year and a half later, Charlie was drafted and sent to Vietnam. Three days before he was supposed to leave, Fran had a miscarriage of twins. Charlie tried to get a two-week delay to grieve with his wife, but his request was denied. After returning from war, Charlie and Fran began working for the family furniture business.
BUSINESS SUCCESS
Business was booming and life was good when Charlie and Fran moved from Florida to Georgia to start their own furniture business. After years of planting roots in their new town of Thomasville, they had two sons, Zach and Nick. The whole family was thriving. One day, while praying, Charlie felt the Lord tell him to sell the furniture business and have a going-out-of-business sale. Shocked, Charlie tried to barter with God. After trying to wrap his head around leaving the furniture business, which was all he ever knew, he asked God if he were obedient in selling the business, if He would provide three things. “One, I want someone to buy our accounts, and I’m asking for eighty-five cents on the dollar. Two, I want the person who buys our inventory to have access to a significant amount of additional inventory, and for them to also include the inventory in the sale. Three, I want to run the sale myself and make significant money in the process.” Since Charlie had been in the furniture business most of his life, he knew how difficult or even impossible those requests were.
Within two weeks, all three requests were met. The next year, he and Fran waited on the Lord for their next venture. Waiting was hard but they pressed into God like never before.
One day, while Charlie and Fran were in Tennessee on a trip, they went out to dinner when Charlie accidentally dinged a car in the parking lot. He placed a note with his number on the windshield of the car. A couple of weeks later, he got a call from the owner of the vehicle, who happened to be a doctor who also lived in Thomasville, Georgia, 500 miles away from where Charlie dinged the car. What started as what looked like an accident bloomed into a friendship. One evening while out to dinner, the two couples were talking, and he asked Charlie and Fran to buy their jewelry store. While hesitant at first, they prayed about it and agreed this was their next venture, and God opened a door for their next thriving business. In addition, Charlie noticed a significant amount of unemployment in his small town, and he wanted to help. The turning point came when the pastor at his church shared a vision that Charlie should start an insurance company to provide jobs for those in need. Initially reluctant, Charlie ultimately accepted this as a calling, and this faith-driven encouragement directly led to the creation of Kingdom Insurance in 1980. What began as a family-operated company has grown into a leading national insurance marketing firm with 25,000 representatives nationwide.
RED LETTERS
As Charlie continued to grow closer to the Lord, he became even more curious about how the kingdom of God was established and how it operates. Deciding to read every word that Jesus spoke in scripture, known as the red letters, his knowledge grew.
The Lord’s main purpose was to establish his kingdom on earth. In Luke 4:34, Jesus said, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent” (NIV). Charlie took note that the kingdom of God is mentioned in scripture around 130 times. In the book of Daniel, we find him proclaiming to King Nebuchadnezzar the coming of God’s kingdom on earth. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus said, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (NIV).
Charlie also observed how Jesus interacted with people like the religious Pharisees who demanded rules be followed and boxes checked. In contrast, the Lord treated sinners differently. For example, how Jesus spoke with the woman at the well who was divorced five times and was living in sin with a man she wasn’t married to. She was a Samaritan, who the Jews refused to talk to. Yet, Jesus was happy to tell her about the love of the Father and His kingdom. Not only did he treat her with love, but he also loved her enough to let her know there was a better way of living, and she was the first person that the Lord revealed He was the Messiah. “The woman said, “I know that Messiah (called Christ) is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us. Then, Jesus declared, ‘I, the one speaking to you—I am he’” (John 4:25-26, NIV).”
To Charlie’s surprise, this was not what he was taught growing up in church, and it’s the reason he decided to write a series of books about God’s kingdom.
HOW GOD OPERATES HIS KINGDOM
In his book, The Kingdom System, Charlie emphasizes that everything God created operates within a system, including our bodies, the universe, and society. The kingdom system is described as the relational and interactive system God provided for humanity to live successfully and meaningfully, both now and for eternity.
The kingdom of God, according to Lewis, is not an abstract spiritual idea but a practical, governing system for every area of life—family, finances, relationships, health, and faith. Scripture says, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders, and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end” (Isaiah 9:6-7, NIV).
In contrast, the world’s system is characterized as asset-based, time-driven, and focused on money, temporary achievements, where competition is encouraged. Charlie explains, “One of the things you find in the kingdom is that there’s no competition and no comparison. We each have a lane that God gives us to run in… The Lord says that our job is to love him first, be the best we can be, and then help others be the best they can be.”
Charlie has written a series of three books about the kingdom: The Kingdom System, as previously mentioned, Kingdom Deployment, and Kingdomnomics. In addition, he’s provided the free booklet, Kingdom Activating Declarations,” which you can download at www.CharlieLewis.net.
THE VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH
After losing twin babies, enduring war, and facing business challenges, Charlie says the biggest challenge he’s faced thus far is the loss of his 14-year-old grandson ZJ to a UTV accident three years ago. He shares that ZJ loved the Lord with all his heart, and he poured out God’s love on those around him. The family knows ZJ’s spirit is living in the presence of Almighty God. During this time, Charlie and his family have leaned on their relationship with the Lord more than ever and have found their comfort in Him. David explains it well in the book of Psalms when he writes, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4, NIV).
