After the Fire Took It All, Hope Stepped In

First class petty officer Courtney serves on board a U.S. aircraft carrier.  After 15 years, she has never regrated serving her country.

Courtney says, “it was probably the best decision I could have made for myself.  And I feel like I’ve accomplished a lot.”

As a single mom, an even bigger priority is her daughters.  One day they came home to a nightmare with their apartment on fire.

Faulty wiring was to blame.  They lost everything.

Courtney explains, “all our clothes are gone. Our furniture's gone. Any furniture we had is gone and if it wasn't burned, it was severely smoke damaged to the point where we couldn't salvage it.”

Courtney didn’t have renter’s insurance. When she relocated she had to live with sparse furniture, no household goods, and very little for the girls.

“They need clothes for school and just basic essentials”, explains Courtney.  “It makes me feel like less of a mom. I've always prided myself on making sure my kids have everything they need and she has a mattress on the floor. “

Courtney turned to her ship’s chaplain for help.

Courtney says, “he was so friendly and welcoming. I felt like after I left out of there, no matter what the situation was, it was going to be okay.”

That conversation caused Courtney to re-establish her relationship with God.

Courtney says, “and that's what keeps me grounded and keeps me knowing like, He's going to make sure that my kids and I are good.  And I know that, and I have to believe that.”

Courtney’s prayers were answered when Helping the Home Front stepped in. We told her CBN was replacing their clothes, restocking her household goods, and buying new furniture.

Courtney cried, “thank you. Thank you so much.”

Courtney went shopping to re-stocked her home and then heading to Esprit Décor to replace her furniture. The owners were so excited to help a local sailor they gave a deep discount.  Courtney is extremely grateful to Helping the Home Front and the CBN partner’s who made it happen.

Courtney concludes, “I’m really thankful to CBN and CBN’s partners. This has taken a huge weight off me, like a huge burden off me.
