A Mother’s Prayer for Shelter

For many years, Manang’oi (MAN’-en-goy) and her children have lived in a small hut made of mud and sticks with a plastic sheet for a roof.  When it rained, water poured through holes in the plastic soaking their belongings.  “One night, it rained really hard,” recalled Manang’oi. “During the day, I could have covered the leaks, but it was dark and there was nothing I could do. We stayed up all night without sleeping.”

The family also struggled to get clean water for drinking and cooking.

Manang’oi said knew she could never afford to build a new home or even fix the one they live in.  Still, her faith is strong and she always prayed and worked hard. “I work in the nearby farms.   Because of my low income, I cannot afford to build a bigger or better house. The little I earn is what I use to take care of my family.”

Then thanks to YOU, Operation Blessing built Manang’oi a new, sturdy house with a roof that doesn’t leak! We also built a second building, which is a stand-alone kitchen, and a third building which serves as a latrine. “I still remember our first night here, and I am grateful to spend time with my children and grandchildren in our own home! I am very happy with this house. It is spacious, and everyone now has their own rooms and beds. The kitchen is wonderful!”

And to help meet their water needs, Operation Blessing installed a rainwater collection system with purification capabilities, providing the family with water right next to their home.

“To everyone who helped make this possible Thank you. I never imagined owning a house this lovely. May God bless you!”
