“I Feel Like I’m Not Alone.”
Fleeing war-torn Ukraine for urgent medical care for the father, a family arrived in Israel only to face a devastating new diagnosis: the mother's cancer. Overwhelmed by medical bills and the challenges of resettlement, they found hope and practical support through CBN Israel.
Natalya, her husband Yuri, and their two daughters lived in Ukraine when the war broke out in the winter of 2022.
“We had to flee from our home in Ukraine, because of the war that started. It was horrifying,” says Natalya. “We understood that we needed to take our children to safety.”
The stress caused by war took a serious toll on their health.
“My husband was sick. It was very hard. He has type 2 diabetes. He had already had a microinfarction.”
It was clear the family needed to leave Ukraine. Because of their Jewish heritage, they decided to relocate to Israel.
“My two daughters, they are very smart girls,” says Natalya. “I wanted to give them an opportunity for a better life. To have a home and security. An opportunity to connect with their Jewish roots.”
They finally found a new home in Israel, and Yuri began to receive the medical care he needed, but after a routine checkup, doctors diagnosed Natalya with cancer.
“I wasn't feeling well either and ended up getting a serious diagnosis as well,” says Natalya. “It was so, so hard. I had to ask for help and that's when I reached out to CBN.”
CBN Israel was able to step in and provide this family with much needed support.
Thanks to you, CBN Israel helped the new immigrants with groceries and bought furniture for the apartment and computers that the girls can use for their schoolwork. Natalia and Yuri were able to establish themselves in Israel while focusing on their recovery giving their daughters a chance to focus on adapting to their new schools.
“There are good people in the world,” says Natalya. “I feel like I’m not alone. And that you're next to me. It's so hard now, but. I'm not alone. Thank you.”
