Struggling After a Lifetime of Work

Retired and living on a fixed income, Janet discovered just how quickly life can change.

“Well, you don't always have the funds to take care of those drastic problems, such as that HVAC system when my heat went out and it’s wintertime,” Janet shared. “I hope nobody ever has to experience that because that was terrible.”

Despite a lifetime of hard work and saving, Janet found it hard to keep up—and food became a constant concern.

“The prices are, they're just ridiculously high,” she explained. “And that's where my shortcoming is, where I can't afford what I would normally go out there and buy.”

“There was some of everything in there,” Janet recalled. “You've got the bread, you've got the meat, you've got the canned goods, you've got the veggies. And I sat down there and I enjoyed whatever I made.”
