The Power of Spiritual Connection
True Wellness: The Journey to Whole‑Person Healing
Every January, millions of Americans race to begin new diets and fitness routines, yet by February, nearly 80% have already given up and returned to old habits. Why? According to wellness leader and author Alisa Keeton, it’s because our “yes” doesn’t last when our “why” isn’t deep enough.
Life is stressful. Between financial pressures, family responsibilities, and daily demands, stress has become a normal part of modern living. A recent Gallup poll shows nearly half of Americans feel stressed on a daily basis. The effects are poor sleep, low energy, irritability, mental fog, and a general sense of helplessness.
Alisa Keeton, founder of Revelation Wellness, understands this struggle personally. Her approach to fitness and spiritual health has transformed thousands of lives by teaching one simple truth: lasting change begins when we invite God into our pain and allow Him to heal what’s beneath the surface.
Why Stress Affects Our Bodies So Deeply
Keeton explains that chronic stress, whether from childhood adversity, trauma, bullying, divorce, or financial pressure can slowly chip away at our physical and emotional health. Research shows that 90% of all sickness and disease is connected to ongoing stress. “You can feel it in your body,” Keeton says. “You’re not sleeping well, you’re not thinking well, you don’t feel well. Your energy levels are low. You’re grumpy. Brain fog.” These symptoms are signals that something deeper is going on. And God wants to meet us in those places.
Alisa’s Story: When Fitness Couldn’t Fix Her Broken Heart
Before encountering Christ, Alisa poured herself into competitive body building competitions. But no medal could heal her hurting heart. “My broken heart was not going to be fixed by more squats at the gym,” she shares. “I had to go deeper to the root of my pain.” That journey led her to Jesus, who didn’t offer a quick fix but a complete transformation of body, mind, and spirit.
Allowing God to Heal Your Inner World
In her book The Body Revelation, Keeton teaches that pain is often an invitation, a sign drawing us closer to God. Instead of avoiding discomfort, she encourages believers to bring it to the Lord and allow Him to redeem it. But how do we practically do that? Alisa says look at the 3 M’s.
The 3 M’s: Mind, Mouth, and Move
When faced with any of life’s challenges, we need to step back and look at our thought life.
1. MIND: Capture What You’re Thinking
When a negative thought surfaces, pause and ask: How am I feeling right now? Next compare that with what does God say about me. If the thought doesn’t align with Scripture, write it down and replace it with God’s truth.
2. MOUTH: Speak Life, Not Despair
Words have power. Scripture tells us there is life and death in the tongue.
In moments of pain, we may say things we don’t mean or say nothing and push emotions down.
“What am I saying about myself?” Keeton asks. “What new story can I begin speaking?”
3. MOVE: Use Your Body to Release Tension
Movement is one of God’s built‑in releases for stress.
Research supports the benefits:
Harvard Medical School found adults over 60 who sat less than 3 hours a day were 33% less likely to die of cardiovascular disease.
A German study showed daily brisk walking improves brain function.
“Just start moving right, left, right, left,” Keeton says. “Breathe. Let God clear your thoughts.”
Disconnect, Step Outside, and Let God Renew Your Soul
When you walk, Keeton recommends leaving your phone behind. Quiet your mind. Notice good things in your life and thank God for them. She also encourages what she calls “beauty stacking” intentionally seeking out things that bring joy and delight your soul. “For me, it’s riding my bike or scooter,” she says. “Doing things that fill your soul helps you come alive.” It is important to remember that God is the source of all good things. He wants us to enjoy our lives in Him.
You Are God’s Idea and He Has a Plan For You
Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that God has a plan and a purpose for our lives. Real transformation begins when we surrender control over our pain, stress, and expectations. Allow Him to make you new. When you give God your whole self—body, mind, and spirit—you’ll discover a life filled with purpose, joy, and lasting freedom.
