The Greatest Calling On Our Lives

LIVING YOUR FAITH OUT LOUD

Ten years ago, Babbie had an epiphany. For forty years, she had spent most of her time pursuing her career goals. She had recorded chart topping singles and several music projects. She won music industry awards and performed for millions. However, she felt like there was something missing in her personal walk of faith. She had an epiphany: “The years behind me were more than the years in front of me. I wanted my life, my faith, and the rest of my years to really count. As a follower of Christ, I wanted to live my faith out loud, with more boldness, more purpose, and more intention.” She prayed out loud, “Lord, will you give me more opportunities to share my faith with others, even when I’m not onstage? Everywhere I go – to the post office or the grocery store, to the doctor’s office or the airport – help me share the love I have for you with a contagious joy and a confident faith. If You open a door, I’ll shine my light, share my faith, and walk through it. Amen.”

Almost immediately, God began placing Babbie in situations to share her faith. She says, “God began to show up and show out in incredible ways as He placed me in the path of people who needed a light to shine on their hopeless circumstances.”

HOW TO EVANGELIZE

The reason Babbie shares her faith is, “I recognize the biblical reality that people the Lord allows me to influence can actually have their names written in the Book of Life if I tell them about Jesus.” She offers the following advice on how you can share your faith with those around you:

  • Shine in a world where we are surrounded by darkness. One night Babbie was asked to sing in a restaurant she was visiting. As she sang, the people in the restaurant were moved by the message of hope in her music. The chef came out and shared how she often felt so low and struggled to get out of the bed and feed her children. Hearing Babbie sing, encouraged her, and reminded her that God does still hear her prayers.
  • Share the good news of Jesus with enthusiasm one person at a time. In the New Testament there were no cell phones, internet, or televisions. The only way to spread the gospel was by sharing with one person at a time. This method is still effective. “He uses people like you and me to evangelize the whole world and spread the gospel like a wildfire…each one can reach one,” shares Babbie. Mary Magdalene – accompanied by other women went to tend to the body of Jesus at His burial while the disciples were hiding out in fear for their lives. She discovered the empty tomb that morning, had an encounter with Jesus at the garden tomb, and spread the news with the disciples. Mary was tenacious, courageous, and expeditious.
  • Live a surrendered life yielding your power, your will, and your way over to God. Let God have His way in your life. Seek God’s will for your day-to-day agenda or your decisions. JonahA prophet from the Old Testament did not want to surrender to God’s will. God instructed him to go to Nineveh to prophesy destruction and preach repentance. Jonah did not feel these evil people deserved a chance for repentance so they could know God. He felt they deserved God’s judgement. So, he ran in the opposite direction of Ninevah. When Jonah finally surrendered to God’s will and preached the Word of the Lord in Ninevah the people repented and were spared God’s judgement.
  • Be intentional in sharing the gospel. One day in Piggly Wiggly, Babbie remembers humming to herself while waiting to check out. The man in front asked her to sing something for him when he found out she sang for a living. Babbie began singing Amazing Grace. Suddenly, the store’s sound system went mute, the manager stepped out of his office and began to worship the Lord. The grocery clerk shared with Babbie that
  • Amazing Grace was her grandmother’s favorite song, but she was currently sick from cancer. Babbie offered to pray for her grandmother. When Babbie left the store and headed towards her car a single woman stopped her and asked her to pray for their family.
  • Let kindness define your lifestyle. Take time to be kind and share Jesus with those around you. A kind act or word can heal a broken heart. “When people respond to kindness, they may share personal details that otherwise would remain hidden,” reveals Babbie. A holy moment can develop when God invites us to cooperate with the Holy Spirit to do a specific work. Your part is to yield yourself and step into the moment by obeying the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
  • Put Christ first in everything you do and obey the call He has on your life. One evening Babbie was invited to attend a local songwriter’s group in Atlanta. To her surprise, the meeting took place in a bar. The group’s president called Babbie onstage with him to sing a gospel rendition of Amazing Grace. After they finished, they got requests to sing more worship songs to the Lord for the next thirty minutes. One woman asked, “How is it that you, a gospel singer, came to a bar tonight?” Babbie revealed that she had been invited, but also felt God had sent her to let people know if they have a need Jesus can help them. A few minutes later, the young woman asked Jesus into her heart.
