A Son’s Pain and a Parent’s Anguish
David, a 3-year-old boy from the Indonesia, was born with an inguinal hernia. His mother, Devi, grew alarmed when she saw that the lump had grown 10 times its normal size.
"I remember David said to me, 'Mom, what's this big lump?'" Devi said. "It was so big. I thought why does my son have to suffer like this?"
David's hernia and associated pain kept him from running and playing with his cousins and friends. Devi said that at first there was just one lump, then there were two. "He cried a lot because it was really painful," Devi said. "I remember one time he cried more than usual because of the pain—and he had a high fever for almost 2 weeks. He even had a seizure. I was really afraid that he would die."
Devi's family is poor. Her husband, Atang, only earns about $3 a day. Getting surgery to repair the double hernia was out of reach. "Deep in my heart, I wanted to provide surgery for my son," Atang said. "But it was impossible."
One day a relative connected the family with Operation Blessing. We then paid for David to receive a free operation to repair the hernia.
"When I knew that Operation Blessing would help my son, I was really happy!" Devi said. "My hope started to rise again."
Now David can run and play with other kids without pain.
"We want to thank Operation Blessing for helping our son David to fix his hernia," Devi said.
"I can't imagine what my son's life would be like if we had not met the people from Operation Blessing," Atang said. "I hope you can help others like you helped us! Thank you so much to all of the people who gave to support us. Thank you."
We are grateful for the opportunity to help David and his family. Your donations make a real difference in the lives of people in need.
