An Ohio woman has been indicted for live streaming the rape of a minor on the social media app Periscope.

Live video services on Periscope and Facebook are gaining in popularity. The rape allegedly took place on Feb. 27 at a home in Columbus.

"Marina Lonina, 18, allegedly began broadcasting the incident as her acquaintance, Raymond Boyd Gates, 29, forced himself on the 17 girl while the three were at the home," Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney Ron O'Brien said in a statement.

The night before the rape, Lonina allegedly also took a nude picture of the victim, who authorities identified as a friend.

An out of town friend of Lonina's watched the broadcast of the rape on her smartphone and alerted police.

Gates and Lonina were indicted on charges of rape, sexual battery, kidnapping and pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor.

Last year a Florida woman used Periscope to live stream video of herself driving drunk. Her drivers' license was suspended for six months and she received 150 hours of community service.

If convicted, Gates and Lonina face 40 years in prison.
