Midwest Braces for Severe Storms, Tornadoes
12-31-1969
Cities across the Midwest are bracing for severe weather Thursday.
Forecasters estimate 57 million people live in areas with an "enhanced risk" of large hail, damaging winds, and possible tornadoes.
Parts of Kansas and Oklahoma reported a handful of tornadoes Wednesday. And a heavy downpour of rain across the Midwest produced flash flooding and left drivers stranded in Indiana.
Some powerful storms uprooted trees out of the ground in parts of Ohio, while a six-inch blanket of ice pellets covered parts of Idaho.
Thursday's worst weather will be seen from Chicago and Detroit toward the southwest near Dallas.
