Reflection and Awe Lent Series - For the Lost

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” –Luke 19:10 (NIV)

How do you know when you are lost?

We can drive around for hours trying to find our way and end up going in circles. It’s helpful to have directions; without them, it’s hard to know when you are getting off track. 

The truth is that in our lives, we can often feel like we are going around in circles, too. We try our best to figure out the right way to go on our own, based on our experience, upbringing, or preferences, but ultimately, in our own strength, we fail. We all need someone to come alongside us and show us the right way.

Only One can give us the direction we need: Jesus.

He leads us out of our wandering, and without Him taking us by the hand and showing us where to go, we would be absolutely lost in every sense of the word. We are all flawed, lost, and desperately searching for direction.

Jesus’ mission from heaven was to seek out those who were wandering, caught in their humanity and sinful nature, blind to the eternal separation from God. In His grace and mercy, Jesus gently turns us in the right direction. Like a road map, the Bible shows us how we should walk. We never have to do this alone; He promises to walk the journey alongside us every step of the way in the person of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus came to help the wanderer find their home and to guide the lost back to their true north. As we journey through this season of Lent, a time of reflection and preparation, let us marvel at the awe-inspiring love that pursued us and brought us into the fold. Take a moment today to thank God for rescuing you, finding you when you were lost, and giving you a home in Him.

Then, let this reflection stir your heart toward others. Ask God to lay on your heart the name of someone still wandering, still in need of the hope and salvation that only Jesus offers. Pray boldly for them, believing that the same power that raised Jesus from the grave—the very power we celebrate at Easter—will open their eyes to the truth of His love.

Together, let’s trust that this season will lead to transformation, not only in us but in the lives of those we lift to the Lord.
