From Struggling to Survive—To Financial Peace
Today Sue Farrell is all smiles, full of hope and joy. It’s a far cry from how she used to be. She grew up in Thailand in a large dysfunctional family, where she was often criticized and, in turn, very unhappy. Looking for a fresh start, she moved to America in her 20’s. However, things only got worse.
“I live in the trailer, in a rundown trailer. I used to drive a car, we had no air conditioning,” she recalls.
Sue married a man who left her with a son to raise, a mortgage, and the bulk of the bills. She got an associate’s degree in business and became a hairstylist at a mall. Her first paycheck was only $20. She was determined to make more money and provide a good life for her son, yet she didn’t know how that would happen. Through the years, she’d heard about Jesus. Now, Sue called out to Him.
“I was just crying and say, ‘God, are you real? Show me if you’re real,” she shares. “And suddenly, I feel like my room is just bright. Just like somebody have come in my room and put the flashlight.”
She found a church and soon surrendered her life to Jesus.
“I changed, it’s just suddenly, I changed,” she says.
Sue came across the 700 Club and began learning practical biblical principles like the law of reciprocity.
She remembers, “Pat Robertson say, ‘Give will be give back unto you.’ He said that on TV. Bible says it is true. That's what I start to believe. It said tithe 10%. And I learned to give. I learned to tithe, and I said, ‘Lord, ‘I give you my best.’”
As she tithed, her clientele picked up.
She explains, “Sure enough, my business is built, just booming, and people tip and tip and tip. I already see it come back to me. You know, His word, His word is so true."
She remembered something else she’d heard Pat Robertson say on the 700 Club.
“’Ask for wisdom, favor, and anointing,’" she states. “And I thought to ask the Lord, ‘I want more wisdom.’”
Sue prayed and continued to tithe, and doors began opening that brought more financial gain. She started her own beauty salon and began investing in real estate. When one of her properties more than doubled in value, she single-handedly paid for her son’s college tuition.
“I give, and here I receive more. And when I receive more, I give more,” she proclaims.
She began helping the homeless in her community and also became a CBN partner.
She explains, “No matter on every circumstance, CBN is out there. You know, Operation Blessing, boom, boom, boom, it's just out there. It helped so quick and so fast and go all over so many countries. Especially children is all in my heart, you know, and I want to be a part of CBN and helping.”
When she saw Superbook reaching kids in her own homeland, she wanted to give even more.
“Kids in Thailand know Jesus from Superbook, the story. And even myself, I like it. I still have kid in me. I enjoy it, you know, Superbook. And easy to read and easy to understand,” she says.
Sue is now retired, happily remarried and financially secure. She encourages others who want change in their own lives to surrender to Christ and make giving a priority.
“He has blessed me, and I need to give back to Him,” She concludes. “You know, people who receive a good blessing from the Lord, we should the support CBN. You know, why not? It’s so simple. It say, ‘Give and will be give back unto you,’ so much more than what you give.”
