The Girl Who Hid Her Smile

9-year-old May Zin was born with a cleft lip and palate. Her mom said they’ve never been able to save enough to pay for surgery to repair it.  “My daughter is shy and doesn’t like leaving the house,” her mother Cho told us. “She’d rather be by herself.”

“Every time I go outside, people stare at me,” added May Zin. “I feel ashamed. When I look in the mirror, I see my split lip, and I think that I am not beautiful.

Cho sells food outside their home in Myanmar, while her husband  works in construction.

Together they earn just enough to provide the basics for their 3 children. “I cut back on household expenses so we could save for surgery. But when a snake bit my husband, we had to use all of our money to save his life.

Lately, May Zin felt like she had to quit school—the kids just wouldn’t stop bullying her about her cleft lip.

“I worry that if my daughter doesn’t finish school, she won’t have a good future,” said Cho.

Then a pastor told Cho about Operation Blessing. Thanks to YOU we paid for May Zin to receive 2 operations, one to repair her lip and the other  to repair her palate. Both surgeries were successful and she has now returned to school.

“My daughter has changed a lot! She is no longer shy. I am deeply grateful to the people who gave to Operation Blessing to help her!” said Cho.

Now, when I look in the mirror, I FEELPRETTY!” said May Zin confidently.  “THANK YOU to the PEOPLE who helped me!”
