A Piano Teacher Who Changes Lives
Piano instructor, Camille Iton, has a heart for children. With a background in music, she started giving piano lessons in 2019 and now has over 20 students. Camille says, “The families become like family. They're awesome young people with incredible potential. They’re starting out doing something they’ve never done before so we're not only learning to do something we've never done before, but we're building confidence.” Along with building their confidence, Camille looks for ways to help her students with other challenges they may be going through. So, when she came across CBN’s animated series, SuperBook, she was intrigued. She recalls, “The first thing that struck me was the animation. I was like, ‘Whoa, this is beautiful’. It gives you situations that are real, things that young people go through. But then, it gives you answers. It speaks the language of children. And that's what's needed, not only for the children, but for adults. We need to hear that language as well.”
When Camille shared SuperBook with the families of her students they were just as excited as she was. She recalls, “The stories were so creative, they were so creative. They were biblically sound. So, from beginning to end I was very thankful.” Camille loved the series so much, she decided to join CBN and help share SuperBook with kids around the world. Camille recalls, “I said, ‘Lord, I need to be a partner. I wanna be a part of this’. I am not able to go to different nations in different countries. And I understand SuperBook is in different languages. I love the thought. I love the word of God being translated to children. I love the animation. I love there being a product, a tool that we can utilize. I wanna sew into that. I want them to understand that they're special, that they're gifted, that they belong to God.”
As a partner, she was delighted to receive books that were a hit with her students too. And her students love them too, as one child says. “I want to read all these”. Camille is also a fan of using the SuperBook app for games and a deeper look at Biblical characters. She says, “The kids love to have fun. They love to smile, and they love to laugh. And learning is okay when it's integrated with fun and smiling and laughing.” One of her favorite parts of the series is The Salvation Poem at the end of every episode. It’s something she teaches to her students and one of her greatest joys was when some of her students sang it to her after accepting Jesus into their lives. Camille recalls, “I noticed the lyrics that they really were just letting you know that if you sang this song, it's like, yes, I'm thankful for salvation. They need to be singing it because it's teaching them exactly how to receive salvation.”
