Toddlers Crippled by Polio

From a young age, Abraham took on the burden of fetching water for his family in southern India.

Abraham said, “I walked miles through wild paths to fetch water from a pond. I could hardly go to school because I spent most of my time fetching water.”

Abraham’s mother, Estheramma, explained, “The water from the pond was muddy and smelled bad, but we had no other choice. It often made my son sick, so the little money we earned was used on medicines.”

Abraham’s parents couldn’t fetch water because they were both crippled by polio when they were toddlers. His mother works as an incense stick roller, while his dad is a parking lot attendant. Together, they make less than 5 dollars a day. When Abraham was sick and couldn’t fetch water, they barely had enough money to buy bottled water.

Tears came down Abraham’s face as he said, “I was sad because my parents were struggling, and I couldn’t spend time with my friends. While they were playing, I was always fetching water. My hands and back would hurt, and I was always very tired.”

They prayed to Jesus for a way to get safe drinking water, and for Abraham to have a brighter future.

Estheramma said, “We always had faith in God. At last, He heard our prayers and sent Operation Blessing to our village.”

Operation Blessing set up a Reverse Osmosis water plant at Abraham’s school. It uses special filters and pressure to purify water. Now, over 600 students have access to clean drinking water, and it’s being delivered right to the doorsteps of 170 families.

“I no longer have to fetch water!” exclaimed Abraham. “I can go to school regularly and play with my friends.”

“This water system is truly God’s gift to our village,” said Estheramma. “We can cook tasty meals and drink safe water every day.”

Abraham said, “This water system has changed our lives! I’m so happy today.
Thank you!”
