Double Vision Made School Nearly Impossible

Ever since he was a baby, 10-year-old Vince has struggled with strabismus, or crossed eyes. And nearly every day he told his mom about his struggles in school. The physical effort required just to focus on his lessons caused him regular suffering. "I tried not to move this eye so I could see with one eye," Vince shared, explaining the exhaustion of managing his vision. "I try my best to look straight but my eyes shift left and right and then I get dizzy and my head aches."

Vince told us that bullying by his classmates has made things worse. He’s become withdrawn and isolated from kids his age.  Then the emotional toll of the isolation frequently brought the young boy to tears. "It hurts…it hurts here inside," Vince said, crying. "I just hope my eye gets fixed soon."

Hearing about the cruelty her son faced at the hands of his peers broke his mother's heart. "He told me that his classmates said he could not play with them because of his eyes," Leah explained. "It’s painful to hear that. Why did this have to happen to my son? I blame myself for it."

Vince’s mom earns just enough to feed her kids but not enough to pay for the $1,300 dollar operation.  The massive cost left the single mother feeling completely stranded. "It’s too much for us," Leah recalled of their desperation. "I don't know where to get that amount of money."

Then thanks to YOU, Operation Blessing paid for Vince to receive the surgery needed to tighten the muscles in both eyes. Now he is enjoying clear, sharp vision and a newfound sense of confidence.  And the transformation in his social life and self-esteem was immediate and profound. "I can now see straight and I have lots of friends," Vince celebrated. "They say that I look handsome. I feel happy."

The heavy burden of worry and constant heartache has finally been lifted from his mother's shoulders too. "We’re so happy!" Leah expressed joyfully. "I no longer worry that he will come home sad after school.  My heart is at ease."

Vince joined his mother to send words of appreciation to those who changed his future. "Thank you, Operation blessing for fixing my eyes!" the young boy said.
