Why is Life so Hard Sometimes?
CBN.com A well known American humorist by the name of Erma Bombeck once said: “If life is a bowl of cherries, then what am I doing in the pits?”
We can all certainly relate can’t we? Let’s face it, many times that’s exactly what life can be…THE PITS!
Sometimes our world seems to be nothing more then a stream of endless trials and insurmountable hardships. We no sooner resolve one problem, when another starts to surface on the horizon.
However, when we turn to the Bible to find the answers, we soon discover that each and every person is given a very important decision to make. We are all presented with the choice of either living life for ourselves…or living life for another.
This “another” that we are speaking of, is non-other then Jesus Christ himself, the son of the Living God who came, in order that we might have LIFE…and have that LIFE more abundantly! (
).There are many wonderful stories in the Bible, of people who decided to follow Jesus instead of living life for themselves. And as they daily made the choice to “leave all, and follow him,” they soon discovered that their lives had become completely transformed.
One of those people was a man by the name of Paul. This is what he had to say:
“My life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” (
) New LivingTranslation.
You see, Paul realized that God had a life already “assigned” to him.
The Book of Jeremiah gives us assurance that “God” has a plan for our lives as well. Notice it is God who has this plan…not you, me or John Smith!
As we read in Chapter 29:11, we learn that God has wonderful plans, "plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future." Our part is to go to him with a humble and sincere heart, surrendering “our plans” to “His plan” and renounce all of our own self efforts and attempts to live life apart from Him!
Jesus in turn gives us this glorious invitation:
"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly." (
