A Vision of Caring
Inside these four walls, she never saw a single soul, not even her own mother or father.
You see, 21-year-old Xiao Hua was born blind. Abandoned at birth by her parents, she was placed this orphanage outside Beijing when she was just eight years old.
"Xiao Hua was a very introverted child," one of her caregivers remembers. "She just slept and listened to the radio. She didn't like being around the other children."
After years of isolation it looked like Xiao Hua didn't want anything to change. She had become a prisoner of her own making, that is, until
Last year, CBN staff came to the orphanage to help these abandoned children. They gave the children medical checkups and other daily needs. They also gave a lot of help to Xiao Hua.
When CBN staff first visited Xiao Hua's orphanage, they knocked and knocked on her door. But, it was months before she allowed anyone to come in to her room. Once inside the CBN staff member found a lonely girl who made one simple request.
"I really wish I could leave the orphanage," Xiao Hua asked, "even just to step outside for a day and walk around by myself."
So CBN organized excursions where volunteers took the children to nearby parks and gardens to play. Xiao Hua came alive and was able to experience the world as she never had before. On one outing, CBN China took the children to lunch at McDonald's -- a day Xiao Hua will never forget.
In addition to providing for the children, CBN China has helped to renovate the orphanage
"CBN has invested more than $10,000 dollars in renovating this orphanage," the director says with joy. "The children at the orphanage have greatly benefited from the help. And this year, they even sent Xiao Hua to school."
"I like going to school," says Xiao Hua, "because at school, I am able to learn many things, and learn to read like normal people so that in the future I may be able to make a living. And I hope to be able to find a good husband some day."
Through the friendship and care shown by CBN China, Xiao Hua's life has dramatically changed. This once shy and scared little girl has become a young woman whose warm smiles touch her many friends. Now, instead of living in a prison of despair, Xiao Hua has hope. And her spiritual eyes are wide open to the amazing love of Christ.
