The Tornado that Changed Their Lives Forever

CBN.com —When a F5 tornado ripped through Moore, Oklahoma in May 2013, it seemed to take everything precious from Ross and Dani Legg. Their homes and cars were destroyed and all of their belongings lost. Their 9-year-old son Christopher was killed along with 6 other students at Plaza Towers Elementary School.

"He actually chose to go down the hall sit by friend who was crying," Dani said. "He was always a giving child, very brave, and he did what was right. He actually ended up saving that girl that was sitting beside him."

"But for us it has been just overwhelming grief, anger, frustration, and hurt," Ross said.

After the tragedy, CBN's Operation Blessing connected with Dani and Ross and their two surviving children. Over the next several months, they helped them with their basic needs, like groceries and items for their house. They offered spiritual encouragement as well.

"Operation Blessing showed up and they were like, how can we help you? How can we serve you?" Dani said.

Also, after the school removed the original memorial for new construction—Operation Blessings surprised the family by building a memorial garden for Christopher, right in the backyard of their new home.

"They would show up on my doorstep. If nothing else, just to give me a hug," Dani said, "to tell me its going to be okay…and when I missed my son so much, they would miss him with me."

"Because there is someone there who has got a strong faith, a strong commitment to help us, to be of service…the smallest things can make the biggest difference," Ross said.
