The Secret to Becoming Debt-free
CBN.com - From the start of their marriage, Walt and Martha Primerano worked hard to become debt-free. But a layoff threatened to interrupt their plans.
“Our company, we lost 90% of our staff,” says Walt. “So I was out of work for 14 months. We knew that during these difficult times, god would provide abundantly.”
Before the layoff, Walt’s salary as an architect had covered most of their expenses. Now down to Martha’s income and an unemployment check, the couple trimmed their budget. But even when things were tight, they continued giving god the first 10 percent of their income.
“I had to remind myself that it's not the world's economy that we work in, it's God's economy and so he is going to be faithful to what he promised to do and he promised in
“‘See if I will not open up the heavens for you and to provide abundantly for you,'” quotes Walt. “It's God's promise. The 10% that we give, you know he can multiply that.”
The couple also partnered with CBN.
“I first heard the term reciprocity from a book by Pat Robertson,” says Martha. “It was teaching about giving and how you just can’t out give God and so it’s been a blessing to us.”
The couple prayed that Walt would soon get a new job. In the meantime, they were blessed in ways they never expected. They were able to pay all their bills and had enough money left over to pay off their mortgage, even while Walt was unemployed!
“That was a lot of satisfaction,” says Walt. “It was just something that we dreamed about.”
“I do believe there is a link between our tithing and giving and God blessing us as a couple because
says the blessing of the lord brings wealth and adds no trouble to it,” says Martha.The CBN partners decided to increase their pledge. Since then, Walt has found a new architecture position, and Martha has received a raise on her job each year. The couple is now totally debt free and looks forward to supporting CBN even more in the future.
“Don’t stop tithing,” says Martha. “Don’t stop giving because it’s about trusting him and learning that he loves you and cares about every detail of your life. He really does!”
