Scott Ross on Pat's 80th Birthday
Greetings Folks,
On Monday, March 22, 2010, Pat Robertson turned 80 years of age. Count ‘em 80! Amazing, and he’s still “pressing on,” with no intention of retiring. Retirement ain’t in the Bible.
This past weekend here at CBN we celebrated that event and 50 years of this work that includes, The 700 Club, Regent University, Operation Blessing, etc., which has now spread to over 200 nations throughout the earth.
I met Pat initially in the summer of 1967 in Baltimore, Maryland, at a businessmen’s meeting. Nedra and I had recommitted our lives to the Lord a few short months before (following my prodigal years). We were married in New York City and were praying about what to do next. Nedra was traveling internationally performing as a Ronette at the time.
Within weeks of each other I was offered a job with David Wilkerson, and Teen Challenge in New York City or to hook up with Pat and the then fledgling CBN in Portsmouth, Virginia. We chose to join up with Pat and CBN and moved to Portsmouth.
We subsequently moved to Ithaca, New York, for CBN and helped establish five radio stations, CBN Northeast, developing a whole new type of music format. I hosted a daily radio show playing pop music, taking phone calls and talking about Jesus.
The subsequent Scott Ross Radio Show evolved out of this network and was eventually syndicated to over 180 radio stations in the USA and through Armed Forces radio and various ships at sea. We won a number of awards including “best syndicated radio show” for a few years running.
All this led to many other endeavors, with my leaving CBN in 1972, and then with Pat’s invitation we returned again to The 700 Club in 1984. Much of this is documented in Pat’s book, Shout It From the Housetops, and my book Scott Free.
“Blessed is the man…whose hope is the Lord.”(Jeremiah 17.7) and that certainly applies to Pat.
It has been an honor to be part of all this, and it’s been quite a ride but it ain’t over yet; because CBN has a mandate to “prepare the nations for the coming of the Son!”
That we’re doing, so we press on.
Here my appearance on The 700 Club for Pat's 80th birthday.
