Obama Builds Credibility with African Americans
A few months ago when President Obama was facing public criticism by leaders in the black community for not doing enough to benefit black Americans, the White House responded that Mr. Obama is a president for all Americans. They said that helping to grow the economy for everyone is the best thing he can do for black Americans.
However, today the White House hosted an "African American Policy in Action Leadership Conference."
The goal: "conversations on the administration's efforts and achievements in the African American community."
The panel of cabinet officials and senior White House advisors focused on economic security in the African American community, the president's domestic policy agenda in the African American community, and fatherhood issues.
While the national unemployment rate is hovering at 9 percent, unemployment among African Americans is almost double at 17 percent and among black men, the numbers are even higher (18 percent).
The White House released a policy report that "outlines the Obama administration's achievements in the African American community."
