Mending a Tattered Home
CBN.com While the people of El Jute Guatemala sleep, Xiomara Ramos sews.
Unfortunately she must borrow an old sewing machine while the owner is not using it. It’s just one way Xiomara helps her husband to put food on the table.
"The people here know that I sew, and they come when they need me to mend something or make a dress," she says.
Xiomara and her family were doing okay—until the day her three-year-old daughter started having breathing problems.
"She started to get sick and two hours later she got worse. We had to rush her to the hospital."
Xiomara’s daughter, Darling had bronchopneumonia, but because the local hospital didn’t have the right medicine to treat it, they sent Xiomara and her daughter home. Xiomara wondered if her baby would die.
"I felt so helpless because we didn’t have any way to treat her."
That’s when Xiomara heard about an Operation Blessing mini-clinic near her village. There she received the help she needed for her little girl.
"They gave me the medicine and when I gave it to her, she started to feel better," she recalls. "A few days later she was perfect -- totally better."
Operation Blessing later sent a doctor to her house to check on Xiomara’s daughter. He confirmed that the pneumonia was healed. For Xiomara, it was a miracle.
"God uses people to help those in need," she believes.
And Operation Blessing did something else to help Xiomara. First they brought her some chickens—which are already bringing in a little extra money for her family.
And Xiomara doesn’t have to borrow her neighbor’s sewing machine anymore. CBN bought her a brand new machine—an investment which is already paying dividends for this young family.
"We are getting better. There was no way for us to make it on our own. Thank you very much CBN partner’s for helping my family; I thank you with all my heart."
