Life-Giving Water

DONA REMEDIOS TRINIDAD, Philippines – As the cool, clean water flowed through her fingers, Nora knew that this would be life-giving water.

Perhaps better than anyone else, Nora understands her village’s need for this new well. She had been young when she had her first child—a boy. When he was still very small, he became ill with diarrhea. The village elders tried to help the child but nothing worked, and Nora lost her firstborn son.

It happened again with her little girl. When a third child became ill, Nora and her husband were determined to get the child to a doctor. They traveled along a difficult road some distance to the nearest hospital. But by the time they got there, it was too late.

At the age of 39, Nora has already lost six children to illnesses that the doctors told her were likely caused by the contaminated water they drank. But she had no choice. The village’s only water source was a nearby stream.

“We didn’t have any other source,” she explained. “And it’s not only my family that has suffered death because of the water.”

Villagers gather to celebrate the new water well that will help prevent illnesses caused by contaminated water. So every day and with every sip, Nora and the other families in the village feared for the safety of their surviving children—until a team from CBN’s Operation Blessing drilled a new well right in the heart of their village.

Now, they don’t have to worry about the contaminated stream anymore and instead can retrieve clean, safe drinking water that comes from deep ground water.

“It’s hard to express how much the well means to us,” Nora said. “We are truly grateful to the Lord.”

HOW YOU CAN HELP
