Hillary Huckabee?

Haven't we seen this script before? When John McCain was cruising towards the Republican nomination, the pundits and party officials were calling on Mike Huckabee to get out of the race because he would be hurting the Republican Party. He didn't listen. He only got out when McCain clinched the nomination.

Now we have a similar scenario. All the pundits and some party officials are urging Hillary Clinton to get out and she, in essence, is pulling a "Huckabee". She's going to stay in until there's a nominee. If it's good for Huckabee, why isn't it good for Clinton?

Do we really think ending this May 8th rather than June 3rd will all of a sudden bring the party together? No matter if Hillary stays or goes, there is some mending to do. Plus, what will the pundits be saying in two weeks when Clinton will probably have big wins in West Virginia and Kentucky under her belt? Will the question then be about why Obama, the presumptive nominee is losing to Clinton by double digits in these states? The storyline may shift once again to "What's wrong with Obama?" The media is fickle and it's in their best interest to see this as a soap opera. It makes for a compelling story.

Another quick note: Obama has to be very careful here. The headlines in newspapers and magazines have declared him the winner. If I were Obama, I would burn those publications. Literally set them on fire. If he buys into the hype and this "foregone conclusion" talk, then he is susceptible to letting his guard down. It could cause him to slip somehow, someway. Clinton is a fighter and like a great boxer, she will keep battling to the end. He may be on his way to winning this fight on points. All the judges have him ahead on their scorecards but if he lets up, he could get whacked with a haymaker, either from Clinton or himself.
