God’s Provision is Their Success
CBN.com CBN partners Greg and Angela Garvin live in a beautiful home in a neighborhood near Atlanta.
But years ago, like most young couples, they started with small beginnings.
Angela says, “We were both amazed at the meager salary we were starting with. I thought he made more than he did. He was kind of hesitant to even share that information with me.”
Greg admits, “There were struggles at the beginning, and we just tried to be faithful with what God gave us.”
Greg and Angela made some dramatic financial decisions.
Based on biblical teachings at their church, they decided to be content with what they had and not use debt to live beyond their means.
The only purchase they would go into debt for was their home since this was an item that should appreciate.
By saving money bit by bit, they even bought their first new car with cash.
“It was just a freeing experience to be able to go out, purchase this car, have a great automobile and not have a payment,” says Greg. “It was so totally awesome and very releasing.”
Angela says, “We did drive it to our parents for a family get together. We were honking the horn all the way up the hill, so excited to show it to everybody.”
Not only were the Garvins frugal with money, they asked God how to spend it.
“Pretty much, major, minor any decision -- seek the Lord and pray before going to purchase anything,” says Angela. “’Lord, is this what You would have us spend Your money on? ‘ It’s not ours but God owns it all.”
They also asked God how to give.
Greg says, “I received a bonus through work. As soon as I got it an opened it up. I knew God wanted me to give it away. So, Angela and I prayed about it. We talked about it, and we realized that was what God wanted us to do. So we gave it to the Lord, and He just totally blew us away. He blessed me in my business right after that in such a way that He was really telling me, ‘You were faithful and therefore, I’m faithful right back to you.’”
Greg works in investment sales, and he soon landed one of the biggest deals in his company’s history.
Later, on Greg’s 46th birthday, the Garvins paid off their home. Greg attributes their unbelievable success to God’s provision.
“It’s not, ‘Give and it shall be given to you.’ But it’s ‘Give and it shall be given to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over.’ You just can’t outgive God.’”
The Garvins want the money they give to make a difference. That’s why they’ve supported CBN for years.
“Our lives get very busy,” Angela says, “but we can make a difference in our world, and CBN is an avenue that God can use when He’s blessed us financially. We can bless others, and we get a thanks but it’s totally the Lord that just allowed us the privilege to be a part of His plan.”
Greg says, “I think the biggest lesson that I’ve learned through my years and my walk with Christ is that you can’t outgive God.”
