Debt Disaster Diverted

CBN.com "Eventually, you get to a point where there is more going out than is coming in, and you end up shuffling things and paying this one late. Every two weeks it was stressful figuring out who was going to get paid and who wasn't," recalls Tom Nolting about his past financial condition.

Tom and Kelly Nolting were on the brink of divorce. The stress of $50,000 worth of debt almost tore their family apart.

"We were in a situation where we would spend, spend, spend money we didn’t have," Kelly confesses. "Credit cards were just maxed out. No money. We couldn’t make the bills half the time."

One day Kelly saw a show on television, a program she hadn’t seen since she was a little girl. It was The 700 Club. She recommitted her life to God and became a 700 Club Partner. But when the pledge appeared on their credit card bill, Tom went ballistic.

"I was in another room, and I heard a loud verbalization," says Kelly, remembering Tom's reaction to the credit card statement. " 'I just told him, 'This is what I am going to do. We need God in our lives. If you don’t think you do, I still do.' "

Then Tom made an interesting decision: He told Kelly, "If I’m paying for this, I’m going to sit and watch it!"

"It was just amazing to watch him just sit there, angry, and just calm down and watch," says Kelly.

Tom prayed that day and asked God to take control of his life.

"It was like I was in a pit," Tom says. "Jesus reached out His hand and pulled me out."

As the months went by, Tom watched The 700 Club faithfully and learned the law of reciprocity.

One day, that law was put to the test—their home heating system broke down.

"We had a repairman come out," Kelly explains, "and he’s like, 'You’re looking at about $2,000.' "

Tom and Kelly didn’t know what to do.

"We just really, really started praying," she says. "Tom said, 'Well, what if we gave more to The 700 Club? What do you think would happen?' 'I don’t know.' We worked it out in our budget, what little bit of a budget we had. Two weeks later, the guy comes back. He looks at it again and he goes, 'I can’t figure this out, but it’s just this one little coil.' It was $49."

The Nolting FamilyIt took several years, but Tom and Kelly’s financial troubles are now over, and their marriage is centered on Christ. They’ve also learned that when they give, God is always faithful.

"Jesus talked about a sower going out and different kinds of soil that sometimes seeds fall on. If you want your seeds to grow, you put it in the best soil. The 700 Club is the best soil," says Tom.

"Every time we give more," adds Kelly, "God does bigger things."

Being obedient to God's truth made an incredible difference for Tom and Kelly. They made themselves available for God's love to flow through them to others, and they are reaping a blessing themselves as well. Join them in partnering with CBN.
