The After-School JAM

CBN.com You’ll probably never see kids getting off a school bus filled with so much excitement. It’s because they’re going to the “Jesus and Me” after-school-program. “J.A.M.” for short. It’s a dynamic, weekly event held by Oceanway Assembly of God in Jacksonville, Florida.

Eight-year-old, Leron Jackson says, "J.A.M. is fun. I like it, and I love it."

"Basically what we are trying to do is teach kids that throughout life it’s Jesus and them. That’s all it is. See, kids become attached to different things. They’ll make relationships with this person, that person, this drug, this thing, and become addicted. But we want to show them that the best and most important relationship is Jesus and them," says youth pastor, Mike Dunn.

The kids love jumping on the moonbounce, and playing basketball, pool, and video games.

"When they get to play those video games, they get to be their heroes. They get to be the Michael Jordans, and the Ladanian Thomasons, and the Drew Breazers. The thing is when they step away, and we go to do worship service, they sit there, and they get to sing unto Jesus. That’s who their real hero should be. The real hero should be Jesus. And that’s what we want to show these kids," says volunteer, Philip Abbott.

"I always wanted to help somebody grow into somebody who could be a model citizen one day.  And me being a part of something that could be so great that gets me here, that gets me there," says volunteer, Shamar Williams.

Because of their creativity, love, and commitment to the children of Jacksonville, Florida, The 700 Club awards Oceanway Assembly of God “America’s Church of the Week.”
