Dead On Arrival, But That Didn’t Stop God

“I remember hearing David get up to go to the restroom. And then I heard him seconds later yell out my name twice. Melissa. Melissa.”

Melissa Fair had good reason to be concerned about her husband David. He’d had a heart attack before.

“I jumped out of bed, I went to the restroom, and he says, call 9 1 1. I'm having chest pain.”

“I I was very scared.” Melissa stated, David’s wife.

David was taken to Resolute Baptist Medical Center in New Braunfels, TX. His cardiologist, doctor Jaweed Sayeed was called into the ER.

“From the EKG, we knew that this is gonna be like something serious.
The patient actually had no pulse; he wasn't breathing and there was no blood pressure, and there was no heart rate.” Noted Jaweed, the Doctor who worked on him.

Despite the staff’s best attempts, David was still unresponsive.

“I said, what all have you done? And she says, we gave him seven rounds of epi. At that point I thought, he's not coming back. I asked the doctor, when do you call the code? Because I was ready to call it.” Melissa continued.

“I didn't know what to think. I didn't know what to pray. I didn’t even know, I just said, Lord, your will be done.”

Melissa faced the reality of her hopes of a peaceful retirement with her husband deteriorating.

“this was gonna be a good time for us, or we were gonna spend our great years here. This was gonna be a great, a great life for us. So I just felt like, I just saw that all that just go down. Like what now? Like what's gonna happen now?”

After half an hour, doctors decided to give David his 8th and final shot of epinephrine

It was a rare move, but it worked.

“My husband comes back fighting, kicking, screaming” She went on.

“and I'm thinking, oh my God. But at that point, I'm not even thinking, oh, you saved his life. I'm thinking, what's life's gonna be after this?”

That’s because by then, David’s brain had been without oxygen for 34 minutes. So, although doctors could now put a stent in the blocked artery, David might never be the same man.

“If the brain doesn't get continuous blood flow and oxygen within few minutes, it's, it just dies. We still didn't know about his brain whether he will have, uh, lived a normal life or whether he would be like, what we call as a vegetative state, not knowing himself or his family and stuff like that.” The Doctor explained.

In an unexpected turn of events, David woke up the next morning, with no major cognitive impairment!

“He knew who he was. He knew he was married and then he was getting his appetite back, was wanting to eat more.  He had his heart attack on a Sunday, and by Thursday he was, he was already being released home. That itself was a miracle to be home so fast.”

“That hit me at that moment. There truly is nothing impossible with God. So, it just, it leveled me up to say, wow, God is really all that.”

“I was kind of confused. Um, glad to be alive.” David, the patient, said.

“I was listening to Dr. Sayeed was like, man, you are a miracle. Uh, you should have been gone. You shouldn't even be here.”

Since his release, David has had no major issues with his heart, and he’s regained all of his cognitive abilities! although Melissa does assist him with some physical tasks, they both continue to celebrate the miracle god gave them.

“Since then, things have gotten a lot better. 'cause we different outlook in life.” Melissa noted.

“My faith has changed tremendously because I know nothing is impossible with God. I would never imagine that that was only God doing it. Nobody else could have done that but God.”

“I got home and was able to sit around and do a lot of thinking and soul searching. I believe that he, he could have chose anyone else. Uh, and I believe that he's doing miracles around the world. He is choosing people. But at that time, he chose me.” David added.

“Very, very rarely we have patients that do so good and survive such an amazing, um, cardiac arrest. And, and, and not only survive, but come out with all their organs, including their brain It’s extremely rare.” The Doctor chimed.
“You know, one of the questions that I asked God was, why me? that's when it really started hitting me. You are here for a purpose. it's like God was still speaking to me. You know, listen son, I brought you back for a reason. You ought to spread my message to anybody and to everybody that wants to hear it. If I don't do anything else left on this earth, it's to convey this, his message to people, to let them understand that he's real.” David finished.
