Crushing Chest Pain Relieved with One Prayer!

Fred Van Dyke is very active and has many hobbies. He enjoys singing in his church choir and golfing with his friends. Unfortunately, that all came to a halt in 2023. While out on the golf course with friends, Fred began experiencing severe chest pain.
“I felt a sharp pain right in the middle of my chest,” he said. “It went straight to my spine, like somebody stabbed me with a spear.”

Fred went to the ER, where doctors discovered four blockages in his heart. He underwent immediate surgery and had three stents put in to correct the problem.
At first, Fred was doing well. But a year later, he began feeling pressure in his chest again.

“It kept building and building, getting worse and worse until it would take my breath away,” he explained. “I couldn't sing in the choir anymore. I couldn’t really sit up, and I had to lean back in my chair to relieve some of the pressure. But the pressure never completely went away.”

Fred found it difficult to complete daily tasks, so he returned to the doctor to get checked out. They ran a stress test and found no blockages. Although he was relieved to get a clean bill of health, Fred didn’t understand why he was still experiencing discomfort.

He prayed for relief but felt as though God wasn’t hearing him.

“I was getting kind of perturbed at the Lord,” he admitted. “I was upset with Him. I asked, ‘Aren’t You hearing me? You’re not hearing me, Lord. Have You got me on hold or what? What’s going on?’”

Despite his frustration, Fred continued to pray and believe God for healing.
One morning, he sat down to watch The 700 Club, as he had for many years, and heard Ashley begin to pray for someone with symptoms just like his.

“I believe that someone is watching, and there’s a tightening in your heart,” she said. “You can feel it in your chest almost all the time, and I just believe God is healing you of that disease and dysfunction of your heart, in Jesus’ name. You will have a normal heart rate, heart rhythm, blood pressure — all of it. I believe one of the side effects is that you feel very faint. I believe God is restoring you to complete health, 100% health in your heart, in Jesus’ name. Thank You, Lord.”

“I said, ‘Okay, Lord, that’s me,’” Fred recalled. “I raised my hands and said, ‘Thank You, Lord,’ and immediately the pressure was relieved. I felt so thankful. I knew the Lord could do it. His timing is perfect. I didn’t understand why He waited two or three months, but I’m thankful I didn’t have to wait much longer—and that He heard my prayer.”

Fred remains symptom-free and encourages others who are waiting to be healed to keep praying and not give up on God.
“He does hear your prayer, and you can be confident that He hears them,” he said. “But He answers in His own timing and in His own way. The Bible says His ways are above our ways, His thoughts above our thoughts. He’s got good reasons for what He does—and we just have to simply trust Him.”
