From Unsafe Water to New Hope
After Yamini lost her husband and her parents, she struggled to raise her two daughters on her own in southern India. Even providing for their basic needs, like safe drinking water, was difficult.
Yamini explained, “I used to walk miles to fetch water from a pond, carrying my children and heavy containers. I even washed our clothes in the pond. The pond water was muddy and smelled bad. We had to filter and boil it before using it, but still my children often fell sick with stomach pain and skin infection.”
Yamini works as a maid, earning less than $4 a day. When her children were sick and couldn’t go to school, she had to stay home without pay.
“I spent most of my earnings on their medicines,” said Yamini. “I was forced to choose between feeding my children and buying clean water. Life felt like a daily battle for survival.”
Desperate for help, Yamini and her children started going to a church. They prayed to Jesus for safe drinking water, good health, and a brighter future.
Yamini said, “I realized I had no one to rely on but Jesus Christ.”
Their prayers were answered when Operation Blessing installed a Reverse Osmosis water system at her daughters’ school. Clean drinking water was finally available to over 500 students and being delivered to more than 200 families.
“God has lifted my struggles and brought great relief to our lives,” said Yamini. “I no longer have to fetch water. Now I have time to spend with my children, cook good meals, and drink safe water every day. My children no longer suffer from health problems like before. They attend school regularly, and I’m able to work every day. I can even save some money now. Thank you, Operation Blessing. This water system has truly changed our lives. We are so happy today.”
