Church of the Week - New Arising Ministries
When you’re poor and hungry living out in the country, whom do you turn to for help? There is help and hope for the poorest of the poor living in the rural community of Jefferson, South Carolina.
Bishop Glenn McIver of New Arising Ministries says, “Our community needs all the help that we can give them. So we’re doing the best that we can by just taking care of the area by feeding them right now with our food bank.”
Every Wednesday they hold a worship service and then give out food. But, any time there’s a need…
“My cell phone rings all the time,” says Robert Sherer. “I get calls at 10:00 at night. But, if they need food that day for baby formula or something like that, we run it out to them.”
One woman says, “I learn a lot when I come here and listen to the preaching. It helps us out when we don’t have any food. There’s not a lot of people around here do that.”
The people in this community get the food they need every Wednesday. But other needs are seen to as well. New Arising helps needy families with appliances and furniture to help improve their living conditions.
“I had been praying for a couch for my home, and I thank God that I got blessed,” says another woman.
McIver adds, “A lot of the people who live here live in trailers, and they still have well water. I’m believing God one day that we can break that yoke and open up some doors where they can have their own homes and have decent employment. That’s our dream and our vision.”
For supplying basic needs and hope to the poorest in their community, The 700 Club congratulates New Arising Ministries in Jefferson, South Carolina – America’s Church of the Week.
