Oleksandr Finds Light in the Darkness

In Ukraine, 14-year-old Oleksandr was known for his cheerful, active nature. Living with his mother, he loved being at the center of events and often helped the priest during church services. But everything changed the day his beloved uncle passed away. The loss was devastating. Questions filled his heart: Why did this happen? Why did God allow it?

He searched for answers, asking his mother and acquaintances, but the responses—“it just happened” or “God wanted it that way”—only deepened his pain. Unable to find peace, Oleksandr carried his grief silently.

When he heard about a local camp, he decided to join—not because he wanted to, but to escape his sad thoughts. What he didn’t expect was that this camp would become a turning point in his life.

From the first days, Oleksandr realized it was more than just a vacation. Each morning began with prayer and Bible reading. When the group discussed suffering and loss, he listened intently. For the first time, light began to break through his darkness. He started thinking deeply about the words of Scripture.

What touched him most were the episodes of CBN Animation’s Superbook shown at camp. Through animated Bible stories, Oleksandr saw characters who faced pain and loss yet chose to trust God. These stories spoke to his heart and showed him that God is not indifferent to human pain—he is always near, even in the hardest moments.

Oleksandr returned home a different person. He still missed his uncle, but now he knew he could turn to God in prayer and seek answers in his Word. And when he didn’t understand something, he realized he could talk to those he trusted. He learned that God never wants us to be alone with our pain.

Oleksandr’s story is a powerful reminder that even in seasons of grief, God’s love shines through—and Superbook is helping children everywhere discover that truth.
