Grace’s Journey of Faith and Healing with Superbook
On the picturesque island of Bali, a bright and resilient 10-year-old girl named Stephanie, affectionately known as Grace, has faced a challenging battle with an infection in her left ear. This persistent condition caused her ear to continuously discharge fluid, leading to multiple surgeries in an attempt to find a cure. Despite undergoing four surgeries, Grace’s infection remained, requiring her to wear a bandage at all times.
Starting school with a visible bandage was tough for Grace. She often felt embarrassed when her classmates asked about it. However, her radiant personality and intelligence shone through, earning her the trust of her teacher, who appointed her as the class leader. Unfortunately, this recognition also sparked jealousy among some of her peers, adding to Grace’s emotional burden.
Amidst these challenges, Grace found comfort and inspiration at her church’s Sunday school, which uses Superbook Academy for its curriculum. Superbook Academy quickly became a highlight of Grace’s week, offering her stories and lessons that resonated deeply with her experiences. One story in particular stood out to Grace: “Paul and the Shipwreck,” or as Grace calls it, “Paul in the Storm.” In this episode, Paul faces ridicule and mockery from his friends but remains steadfast in his faith, choosing not to be afraid and continuing to rely on God.
Grace saw parallels between Paul’s story and her own life. She remembered how her classmates treated her and decided to emulate Paul’s unwavering faith and love for others. This newfound perspective encouraged Grace to pray earnestly to God for her upcoming surgery, believing wholeheartedly in a positive outcome.
Her faith was rewarded. The surgery was a success, and Grace’s ear infection was completely healed. Reflecting on her journey, Grace shared, “I love all the stories, but one of my favorites is the story of ‘Paul in the Storm.’ From this story, I learned that in any situation, we should always rely on God.”
