DJ’s Journey from Mischief to Ministry
In a small town in Indonesia, a bright and energetic boy named Yedija—affectionately known as DJ—is discovering what it means to live with purpose. At just nine years old, DJ is the oldest of three siblings and a fourth-grade student. Known for his curiosity and joyful spirit, DJ was once a handful for both his Sunday school teachers and his parents.
Before encountering Superbook, DJ struggled with discipline. He often acted on impulse, unaware of the importance of rules and responsibilities. One memorable moment was when he encouraged his friends to play in the rain before Sunday school, leaving the church yard muddy and chaotic. His teachers were overwhelmed, and his parents found it difficult to manage his behavior at home.
But everything began to change when DJ was introduced to Superbook Academy—a Sunday school curriculum based on the animated series Superbook—at his local church.
Through the animated Bible stories, DJ found more than entertainment—he found inspiration. One episode in particular, “Roar!”—which tells the story of Daniel in the lions’ den—captured his heart. He was moved by the way Daniel had courage to do what was right, even when it was difficult, and the way God protected him in the face of danger.
Daniel’s story taught DJ that God honors obedience and faithfulness. It sparked a transformation in him. He began to understand the value of being responsible and respectful. He stopped encouraging disruptive behavior and instead became a leader among his peers.
Today, DJ is a different child. He actively serves in his Sunday school—leading worship, praying for others, and even playing musical instruments. At home, he reads the Bible and prays regularly. His heart has softened, and his actions reflect the love of Jesus.
“Now I lead worship and play music. And last Christmas I acted in a drama about the birth of Jesus for the first time. I was so happy to see Jesus being born,” DJ shared with a grin.
This transformation is a testament to the power of God’s Word brought to life through Superbook. What began as a fun Sunday school activity became a turning point in DJ’s life—a journey from mischief to ministry.
