Meredith has been singing since she was 6 years old. She always said she wanted to be a missionary. By the time she was 12, Meredith was writing songs and singing in her youth group. She also sang in churches in her local area. When she was 17, Meredith went to a Rebecca St. James concert. That night was a defining moment for Meredith. “I was blown away by what she did that night,” she says. Rebecca gave a call forward. Meredith felt that the Lord dropped something in her spirit that night. “Yes, I get this,” she recalls. “This speaks to me and resonates with me.” Meredith went forward for prayer.
In 2011, she married Jacob. For some time, they considered a move to Nashville. Not only did they enter into a decision to make the move, they entered a time of turmoil and brokenness. They packed their things and moved to Nashville with their 2 children (Meredith was pregnant with their third child). “Before we moved there, we had stress and tension,” says Meredith. When she was single, Meredith said yes to every opportunity. “It was one thing to say yes to everything when I was single. But when I became a mom, it shifted everything,” she says. Meredith admits she and Jacob had said yes to too much. “When we say yes to too much, we start to break down.” She learned if she says yes to everything, that means she says no to her family. “It’s an everyday walking out,” she says and believes she has learned to say yes to the best. “I believe the Lord was taking us through a pruning season,” says Meredith. “If you’re going to bear fruit, you have to cut off the branches that are not bearing fruit.” Meredith and Jacob sought counseling and surrounded themselves with people who would pray for them. They are learning to lean on God’s promises and listen for His voice. She believes the success of her music over the years has come from the raw places in her life.
