The Sacred Embrace of Jesus' Presence
There are times in life when a simple moment becomes a sacred one. And sometimes, in the most unexpected ways, God leaves traces of Himself for us to unveil.
Recently, I discovered the joy of His presence in my new favorite hobby.
I had begun learning English country dancing simply for the fun of it—the music, the graceful movements, and the fellowship of people gathered together in a centuries-old tradition. Yet, when I first stepped into the patterns of the Scottish Polka, I sensed there was something more unfolding beneath my feet. What appeared to be a charming sequence of steps and spins became a reflection of a deeper spiritual truth.
In the Scottish Polka, there is a breathtaking moment when a gentleman lifts a lady’s hands above her head, and she turns beneath them in a lovely pirouette. Then, in a single fluid motion, the distance between them disappears, and the pair flows seamlessly into a waltz. As they glide across the dance floor, turning together through the music, it feels as though two bodies are moving toward one direction, one purpose.
What a stunning picture of our fellowship with Christ.
In 1 Corinthians 6:17, we read: "Whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit" (NIV). The more I reflect on this truth, the more the dance takes on a whole new meaning for me.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells within me, I find that my heavenly Father teaches my wandering feet the rhythm of His love. He steadies me when I stumble. He turns my awkward steps into a unique masterpiece. Furthermore, as I surrender to His will, my striving gives way to trust, my fear to peace, and my resistance to joyful obedience.
God promises, "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you" (Psalm 32:8). Even when our steps are uncertain, He never releases His hold. He guides us gently and faithfully, drawing us deeper into communion with Him.
Do you long for this kind of union with the Lord—a nearness so profound that every thought, every desire, every step of your life begins to move in harmony with His heart?
Let us embrace Jesus’ words in John 15:4—“Remain in me, as I also remain in you.” It is through this abiding that we gradually discover the beauty of walking in step with the One who never loses His footing. Because when we receive Him as our Lord and Savior, it’s as if we are saying yes to a dance that began before time and will continue into eternity.
Dear Jesus, take my trembling hands in Yours and help me to always follow Your lead. When I go through seasons I do not understand, may I rest in the certainty of Your embrace. Breathe Your life into every part of me so that my steps fall into rhythm with Your will and my heart echoes the song of Your love. In Your name, I pray. Amen.
