Paul Ryan Starting to Warm Up to 'The Donald'?
House Speaker Paul Ryan appears to be changing his mind about the presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
A week ago Ryan said he wasn't ready to back Trump, but now he is calling the billionaire tycoon "very warm and genuine."
The two met Thursday during a private meeting in Capitol Hill to iron out their differences and take positive steps toward unifying the Republican party.
"I was very encouraged with what I heard from Donald Trump today," said Ryan during a press conference.
They issued a statement describing their meeting as a "very positive step toward unification" that recognized "many important areas of common ground" as well as areas where they disagree, reports the Associated Press.
However, after Thursday's meeting Ryan has yet to come out in support of Trump and Trump said he was a little bit surprised.
"I think it's a process," the real estate mogul told NBC's "Today" show. "I think that will come and if that doesn't come, I'll go my separate way and win the election." Asked if he was disappointed, he said "no."
Trump, however, is finding greater success in winning over other critics.
Rep. Tom Cole of Oklahoma said Trump could be a change agent. "That's exactly what people want right now, so in that sense he's very well-positioned for a general election," he said.
