God Speaks Light Into Chaos
Have you ever felt formless and empty? Like you were just existing but not truly living? Wading through life with a dimly lit candle, seeing the outside world but not feeling part of it? For a season, that was me. On the outside, life looked fine, but inside I felt a void and a longing I couldn’t fill. I tried to take control, relying on my own strength instead of God’s Word. The result was confusion and a deeper sense of loss.
It was chaotic and confusing. I allowed self-counsel and depression to rank higher than the Word of God. I attempted to take the reins from God and guide my own path, trying to force my will over His. I had lost my way.
Looking back on that dark time, I’m reminded of the very beginning of Scripture:
The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. (Genesis 1:2 NLT)
Even in my emptiness, God never left me. Like in creation, His Spirit was near, whispering in the darkness and guiding me back to Himself. Just as He spoke, “Let there be light” (Genesis 1:3), He speaks peace into our chaos.
Our God is not a God of confusion, but of order and peace. No matter what we’re facing, His Word brings clarity and direction. His light always overcomes the darkness, and we are never too far gone to walk in it.
For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people. (1 Corinthians 14:33)
Have you ever experienced a season of darkness in your walk with Christ? Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path." Where do you need God’s light to shine in your life today? Bring your request to Him, lay it at His feet, and let His Word guide your steps.
Heavenly Father, thank You for being near, even when I cannot see or feel You. In moments of darkness and confusion, speak Your peace and direction into my life, just as You spoke light into the world. Help me to trust Your timing, rest in Your presence, and follow Your Word as the lamp to my feet. In Jesus’ name, amen.
