God Remains Faithful
One of my favorite Scripture verses is found in Psalm 89. In the last third of verse eight, the Lord revealed to me one word that revolutionized the way I saw His faithfulness. That word is entirely.
“O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies! Where is there anyone as mighty as you, O Lord? You are entirely faithful.” (Psalm 89:8 NLT, emphasis added)
Other translations say that the Lord’s faithfulness surrounds Him or shines around Him as an intrinsic, unchangeable part of Him. (See NKJV, AMP, TPT)
God’s faithfulness is an important and unchanging part of who He is. He is so faithful that it radiates from Him and in everything He does. He is always faithful; especially in the valley and even when we are furthest thing from being faithful to Him.
Romans 3:10-12, reminds us:
“As the Scriptures say, ‘No one is righteous—not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.”
In our sin and in our brokenness, God is entirely faithful to us. Just as He freely gave of himself to die on the cross as a payment for our sins, He has no reservations about being faithful to us. The Bible tells us He does this freely because He loves us.
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.” (Romans 3:23-24, NLT)
The truth is that on our own and in our own strength, we do not have the capacity to be faithful to the Lord, but our lack of faith or faithfulness does not determine how faithful God will be to us. God is and will always be entirely faithful because that is who He is, and He never changes.
Even when I was the furthest from the Lord and I chose to turn my back on Him and live life the way I wanted to, God was still faithful to me, even if I didn’t see it. When I walked through job loss, the Lord was faithful to provide all that I needed, including a roof over my head and food on my plate. He used that time to show me that I could fully and completely depend upon Him for everything I needed and every need I had, He provided. As my eyes became open to where the Lord was in that season, I learned more about who He is and how much He loves me.
Now, as I walk through this valley season as I grieve the loss of my husband, God’s faithfulness has shown up in ways I never thought possible. My eyes are fixed upon Him as He walks with me through the valley and brings healing to my broken heart. He has shown His faithfulness to me once again by providing everything that I need, in fact He has provided exceedingly and abundantly greater things than I could even ask or think. I have truly felt the love of the Lord through the body of Christ in action.
God was faithful then. He is faithful now and He will continue to be faithful because that is who He is.
I don’t know what you are facing in your life right now, but I know who does. God is entirely faithful no matter what you are facing and no matter how far you are from Him. I pray that the Lord would open your eyes to see His faithfulness in tangible ways in your life today and that you come to see that He is entirely and completely faithful to you because He loves you.
Father God, open my eyes to see Your faithfulness in my life. Help me to trust that no matter what I am going through, You are faithful and will take care of me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
