Young Boy Gets the Tutoring He Needs

10-year-old Farel lives in a poor community in Indonesia. He was struggling in school. “I really struggled to learn English,” he said. "I remember one day I felt like getting up and walking out of class.”

To help him, Farel’s mom enrolled him in a free afterschool program in their community supported by CBN’s Orphan’s Promise. He told us the teachers helped with school work and gave him snacks and a hot meal once a week. “All of the teachers at the afterschool program are kind. They worked with me until I understood my lessons.”

As a Christian, Farel said he also learned more about the Bible through CBN’s Superbook. “I love the SBK story of David. I wanted to trust in the Lord just like David believed in Him.”

During the height of the Covid pandemic, the afterschool program temporarily shut down. Farel’s mom, who is a single parent, lost her job and worried about running out of food. “One day we only had a little rice left to eat because mom did not have money to buy food,” said Farel.

So Orphan’s Promise delivered packs filled with rice, oil, sugar, and noodles to the family. Farel’s mom said she was able to stretch that food supply and make it last for a few weeks!

“I remember during the early months when Covid hit, Orphan’s Promise gave us food packs twice a month,” she told us. “Those food packs really helped to supply our needs during the pandemic.”

“I was really happy to receive the food,” added Farel.

Farel’s mom has now found a new job and the afterschool program has re-opened. “I really thank Orphan’s Promise for helping my son in the school program. And I am really grateful for the food packs they gave us. It meant so much.”

“Thank you to all the people who helped me and my mom. God bless you all,” said Farel with a smile.
