Pain is No Match for Active 90-Year-old
“I was busy all the time, I’ve always have been on my feet a lot. Now I sit more than I used too, but I have never been one who just sat,” Barbara says.
Barbara Seleski has never been one to take a lot of down time. Even now, at 90 years old and living alone, she finds there’s always something to be done. Barbara enjoys her independence. “Anything that needs to be done as a homemaker, that’s what I do. At this age you’re concerned, you want to be independent as much as you can. I like to do my own things. I do want to be as self-sufficient as I can, with the Lord's help.”
In 2020, she would need the Lord’s help even more. It started one morning in March after doing some work around the house when she bent down to look out the window. “My left knee, it went out of joint. Just really painful, really painful; and it took a while for it to go back in joint,” Barbara recalls that spring day.
After a few weeks, Barbara’s knee continued painfully popping out of place and it was slowing her down. “When I walked, I could walk fine, then I would say, take a step, turn or pivot, and it would put it out. I was careful because when it went out, it was really painful. Yeah, it wasn’t easy. It was hard. It was happening all the time.”
Finally, a month later at her wellness checkup in April, Barbara told her doctor, who recommended she try a knee brace. “I went and I got this knee elastic sleeve. With that sleeve on, I did everything else that I ordinarily would do. I kept on mowing the lawn or doing whatever I needed in the house. I wore it from the time I got up in the morning until the time I went to bed.”
While the brace supported Barbara’s knee and her busy lifestyle, she still believed God for healing. “And I prayed all the time that the Lord would heal, you know. I was praying that He would heal my knee,” Barbara shares of her prayers.
And then one November morning, while doing laundry, she was listening to the 700 Club and heard Gordon Robertson and Ashley Key praying. Gordon prays out, “There is someone who heard the story about the knee, and you are laying a hand on your left knee and there’s deep pain within the socket. God has heard your cry and has restored everything concerning that knee, all of the cartilage; the bone being knit together properly, the joint being established and everything that is needed. The ligaments, everything is being restored to you right now in Jesus’ name. Be released from pain and be whole.”
“I stopped right in the middle of the floor. I dropped everything and it happened so fast! I can’t explain it, but I knew that it was mine. I receive that, and I bent down and took off the brace and I have not worn it since! Yeah, that was a wonderful day,” Barbara shares her healing.
Today, Barbara is still going strong, staying busy, taking care of her home, and enjoying time with her family without knee pain. “What I’ve found was that I need to receive what He has already paid for and given me. I thank the Lord every day in my devotions, for the things He has done for me and for healing my knee.”
