They Thought It Was Contagious

Baby Maring was born with a severe cleft lip. His parents had not expected it, and everyone, including his mom, was shocked when they saw him.  “When the doctor brought me my baby I cried because I felt so sorry for him. I tried to feed him but he could not drink,” his mom told us.

During the first months, Baby Maring did not know how to drink milk from a bottle. According to his mom, he constantly choked and cried when she tried to feed him.  “At that moment I feared my son might not stay with me for long because he was not able to drink milk.”

Then came the judgement from neighbors and even family members. Som people said his parents must have been great sinners and that is why their son was born this way. They said it was some sort of punishment.

Maring’s dad told us the family was too poor to pay for surgery for their son. “I tried everything I could to earn money for my son’s surgery but nothing worked. My business failed and even though I worked hard and searched the forest for things to sell, I still could not succeed.”

Then Maring’s mom learned about Operation Blessing’s cleft lip program through our CBN Cambodia Facebook page.  They applied for help, and we quickly paid for the baby to receive the surgery needed to repair his cleft lip.  “ I’m so happy that my son has a beautiful smile now.  I don’t have to worry about him anymore he grows up.

And the neighbors no longer exclude them from activites and have come love Maring too,

“Thank you for helping my son,” said the grateful mother.
