“She Won’t See Her Second Birthday”
Mr. and Mrs. Sun will never forget Yulu’s first birthday!
“She was so happy, always laughing and full of life,” her dad recalls.
Her mother adds, “I said ‘Baby, you're our little princess.’ I gave her a hair clip that looked like a crown and made a wish that she would grow up healthy and be happy forever.”
Yet shortly after Yulu’s birthday party, she started coughing and wouldn’t stop. The Suns took her to the hospital, where they found out that their daughter had a serious heart disease.
Mrs. Sun explains, “Her ductus arteriosus wasn't closed, and she had vascular malformation. So, her blood didn’t flow well. We were told she’d have to stay out of the cold and if she cried too much, it would put pressure on her heart. I was really worried.”
The Suns tried to protect Yulu from further complications, yet her health continued to decline.
While the other children were at the park having fun, Yulu was getting treatments, struggling to breathe. It wasn’t fair,” says Yulu’s mother.
Her father adds, “The hospital was like her second home. We sold our pigs and cows to pay for her treatments, but we were told these fluids and injections wouldn’t solve her problem. What Yulu really needed was surgery.” Mr. Sun then confesses, “I was ashamed because we couldn’t afford it.”
Once, Yulu fell into a coma and landed in ICU.
Mrs. Sun remembers, “It was like she was silently screaming, ‘Mom, I don’t feel well. Help me!’”
“Her heart was beating really fast, like an out-of-control ping-pong ball. And there was blood running from the corners of her mouth. Her right ventricle was swollen, and her heart was too heavy for her body,” Mr. Sun reveals. “We were told without surgery, she would eventually die of heart failure. I was terrified. I didn't know if she’d even make it to her 2nd birthday.”
The Suns looked online for help and found Operation Blessing. And you helped Yulu get the surgery she needed.
“We had a birthday party for her on her 2nd birthday,” her father exclaims. “She wouldn’t stop dancing. Seeing her smile again made us so happy. And now, she never gets tired. It's like she's a new person.”
“She's always running and jumping. Sometimes she climbs trees,” declares Mrs. Sun. “Thank you to the Operation Blessing donors for helping my daughter.”
Mr. Sun concludes, “Volunteers from Operation Blessing told us it was the love of Jesus that saved Yulu. We don’t know Him well, but we know He’s good because when I was most afraid, Jesus gave us hope, and Yulu got a second chance on life!”
